August: 7 WOMEN 7 VISIONS

If you are looking for a dose of luminous and inspirational art in August
you should check out the Conejo Valley group art show "7 Women: 7 Visions"

This show, originally conceived and executed in 2007, continues now in its fourth year.
The curators have expanded the show to include seven accomplished local women artists, each of whom offers their own unique approach to aesthetically focusing the inner female world. .
This is a show tensed with what Jung would call a numinous female subtext: one the artists have uniquely and dialectically roped in oil and incandesced in vivid pastel; condensed in watercolor, pooled in acrylic, crystallized in glass and finally congealed in radiant molecules of bronze. .
The feminine point-and-counterpoint offered at this Thousand Oaks venue configures as elegant mix of disparate artistic frames, one that includes landscapes, florals, portraits, mixed media and modern abstracts. .
Ultimately the show assembles an array of art as stunningly different in form as it is unified in vigorously sifting the female artistic psyche.....

Debra Sokolow: Designing Sacred Space

Mosaic Ark Wall and Eternal Light
for David Saperstein Middle School Beit Midrash
Designed by Debra Sokolow, the Director of Architectural Design in the Visual Arts Department at Milken Community High School

The Ark Wall Mosaic, cherry wood Ark Doors and the Eternal Light have been a year and a half-long creative collaboration facilitated by Debra Sokolow, who shaped the design and theme of the seven species with a team of 14 dedicated art students from Grades 7 through 12.

Milken's community of Middle and Upper School students, faculty, parents, administration, staff, and alumni had an opportunity to place glass pieces within the design.

Sokolow’s goal was to create a space that provided young students a comfortable and inspirational learning environment intended for general and Jewish studies while maintaining the ambiance of a sacred space filled with light and color.....
